trail to first class
This program separates first-year Scouts in Patrols and moves them throughout a series of classes designed to assist them in developing many of the basic skills required for Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class ranks. It is important for leaders to realize that while many of the requirements for these ranks will be met, not all requirements leading to First Class can be completed in the week at camp.

This area is very popular with campers and over 1200 merit badges are passed in this area each year. Most merit badges can be completed by first-year campers. All Handicraft Merit Badges are taught in the J.D. Jones handicraft shop that is located in the main area of camp just down the hill from the swimming pool. The building was originally built as a dining hall and a place for meetings but now provides a great place for Scouts to earn the Basketry, Leatherwork, Metalwork, Woodcarving and Pottery merit badges.
